Neem (Azadirachta Indica)
This famous Indian plant has been used in many (beauty) skin care products for thousands of years. The antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties present in the leaves, fruit and bark provide a perfect solution to many skin problems such as rashes, minor cuts and irritations. Neem is highly valued in India and is used in Ayurvedic preparations for many skin problems. It is also an analgesic.
Scientific studies have shown that it can inhibit the growth of viruses, fungi, can clear secondary infections caused by bacteria and even prevent them from occurring. When used to moisturize skin affected by eczema, Neem is as effective as many steroid creams, but without the side effects. It is known to reduce redness and irritation and destroy the growth of microorganisms. The two main anti-inflammatory substances in Neem are nimbin and nimbidin.
Aloe vera (Aloe Barbadensis)
Aloe vera has been used for skin care since Ayurveda called it the "plant of immortality". It is known for its wound healing properties and is commonly used to help with burns, abrasions, psoriasis and even insect bites. Aloe acts as an analgesic and helps to relieve the pain of wounds. It feels especially good to cut off an aloe vera stem, chill it in the fridge and rub it on your burned skin - creating an immediate soothing effect, it works as an absolute lifesaver.
It has long been known as a remedy for wounds, especially burns, including sunburn. Aloe vera is rich in vitamins C, E and beta carotene, which gives it nourishing and anti-aging properties. It can moisturize the skin without making it greasy, making it a great buy for those with oily skin.
Turmeric (Cucurma longa)
Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent. Its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce redness from blemishes and rosacea, while its antibacterial properties disinfect the skin and fight acne.
Turmeric has many skin care benefits: it has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation, pigmentation, and blemishes. Its antibacterial properties help reduce acne, especially when used with other natural ingredients. Its anti-aging properties help prevent and improve dry skin and wrinkles, thus slowing down the aging process and helping your skin look younger.
Sandalwood Oil (Santalum)
Sandalwood has been used for over four thousand years, making it one of the oldest known skin care ingredients. It is used in fragrances, cosmetics, meditative practices, and on its own offers more benefits for the skin than any other essential oil. External use helps in healing and fading scars, which undoubtedly contributes to improving the appearance of the skin.
Sandalwood is the wood of trees of the genus Santalum, which is characterized by its weight, yellow color, and fine grain. The unique property of sandalwood is that it retains its aromatic fragrance for decades.
Licorice (Santalum)
Licorice has been used for thousands of years to treat skin conditions. The Journal of Drugs in Dermatology reports that licorice is an effective treatment for rosacea, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and drug-induced skin eruptions.
A study found that licorice extract may be considered an effective herb for treating eczema. Licorice stimulates the skin to create its own firming connective tissue.
Castor oil (Ricinus communis)
Castor oil is a vegetable oil, and the plant is native to India and Africa. The oil has been known for centuries for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it popular for skin care and treatment. It helps treat infections such as ulcers, athlete's foot, and itching and dermatitis.
Castor oil is also often used in other cosmetic products such as lipsticks, mascaras, lip balms, and hair care oils - mainly due to the moisturizing properties of the fatty acids.
Garcinia oil
Garcinia oil is known to treat scars, blemishes and reduce photoaging. It is used for a variety of skin conditions including dermatitis, acne and eczema, and is good for mature and sunburned skin, stretch marks, brittle nails and wrinkles.
Garcinia is a tropical tree with pumpkin-like fruits. Various parts of the Garcinia plant are also used in traditional medicine for a variety of health conditions, including skin problems, itching and dermatitis.
